About the Author
DEEPAK NAYYAR, an eminent economist, is at present Professor of Economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Earlier he has taught economics at the University of Oxford, the University of Sussex and the Indian Institute of Manage¬ment, Calcutta. Professor Nayyar has also served as Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance.
He was educated at St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi and Balliol College, University of Oxford. He has received the VKRV Rao award for his contribution to research in Economics. He has been President of the Indian Economic Association. He is also on the editorial board of some journals.
Professor Nayyar has published several books and articles in professional journals. His books include: India's Exports and Export Policies (Cambridge University Press), Economic Relations between Socialist Countries and the Third World (Macmillan), Migration, Remittances and Capital Flows (Oxford University Press), Economic Liberalization in India: Analytics and Experience (Orient Longman), The Intelligent Person's Guide to Liberalization (Penguin Books) and Trade and Industrialization (Oxford University Press).
